The development and implementation
of health and safety management systems complying with OHSAS 18001
This standard has been developed as a
parallel to the environmental management standard ISO14001 and the
quality management standard ISO9001. It specifies the requirements
for an effective formalised health and safety management system,
providing a system that ensures risk is identified and managed and a
commitment to continual improvement.
In the development of a health and
safety management system our first steps are to audit the company
operations in the office and, on site, against 18001 and
legislative requirements and then to discuss with the relevant
directors, partners or managers the results of the audit,
identifying existing strengths and weaknesses. Then, based on the
company’s existing systems and controls and in a style to blend wit
the company culture, develop a health and safety management system
incorporating existing good practice and meets the requirements of
18001.
Once the system has been developed then
regular internal auditing of the system is essential to ensure its
continuing positive use. At a later stage the concept of
accreditation to the standard will need to be considered and we can
assist your management team in the choice of an appropriate
accrediting body.
Once the system has been accredited we
can work with you to develop further if you consider this to be
appropriate, the delivery of internal audits, attendance at external
accreditation or the training of your own internal auditors may be
the way forward.
Which ever route you consider to be
appropriate you may rely upon us to assist you. |
