Environmental Management Systems, ISO 14001

This area requires ever greater attention and time-consuming effort now governmental and environmental bodies are becoming increasingly demanding.

We can help you with:

  • Preparing an Environmental Policy

  • Managing Environmental Risk

  • Integration of Environmental issues in Operational Controls and Business Planning

  • Demonstrating good environmental stewardship to Stakeholders

  • Meeting ISO 14001 and Eco-Management and Audit Systems (EMAS)

In the development and implementation of an Environmental Quality Management System complying with ISO 14001 appropriate recognition and understanding of the company’s environmental aspects and impacts is crucial.  In order to build an environmental management system in accordance with 14001 that is effective and appropriate it is crucial that it is integrated with the company’s existing management controls.  Systems that start by addressing the standard and attempting to impose, what appears to be an alien culture, are almost destined to fail.  Whereas systems that reinforce good current practice will prove to be robust and acceptable to those who use the system in their daily work.

Accordingly our first steps are to audit the company operations in the office and, where appropriate in the field and then to discuss with the relevant directors, partners or managers the results of the audit, identifying such strengths and weaknesses.  There will be areas in the standard that are not currently addressed by the company, frequently we find that internal audits and the identification of environmental objectives  are not addressed at this stage and will be developed at a later stage.  Continuing internal audits and training are necessary to ensure that the development remains positive and our experience in the technical aspects of the operations is crucial to the success of the project.

At a later stage the concept of accreditation to the standard will need to be considered and we can assist your management team in the choice of an appropriate accrediting body.

Once the system has been accredited we can work with you to develop further if you consider this to be appropriate, the delivery of internal audits, attendance at external accreditation or the training of your own internal auditors may be the way forward.

Which ever route you consider to be appropriate you may rely upon us to assist you.
